Bastet

Bastet was a goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, worshiped in the early Second Dynasty. She was the goddess of protection, pleasure and the bringer of good health. Due to her protective duties she was nicknamed as Lady of the East, Goddess of the Rising Sun, the Sacred and All Seeing Eye. As time had passed on her form and powers changed over the years. Bastet was depicted as a cat with a female human body and her protection is believed by some to be cast over modern cats. Later she became the cat goddess that is familiar today.
